Basements + Whiskey Sour

Basements. In this episode, Phil and Chris dispel myths about the real cost of basements and help you understand the hole you're digging yourself into. You should build one. The featured cocktail of the episode is a whiskey sour.

Featured Cocktail: Whiskey Sour (makes 2)

A properly made whiskey sour is simple, silky, and ridiculously satisfying. The egg white is optional in the wider world… but in this recipe, it’s the move.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz whiskey (2 oz per drink)

  • 1 1/2 oz simple syrup (3/4 oz per drink)

  • 1 egg white (listed as “1/2 egg” since you’re making 2)

  • Dashes of bitters (your choice, Angostura is classic)

Instructions

  1. Dry shake (no ice): Add whiskey, simple syrup, and egg white to a shaker. Shake hard until it gets frothy.

  2. Add ice, then shake again until well chilled.

  3. Strain into glasses (rocks glass over fresh ice, or up in a coupe, either works).

  4. Finish with bitters: Add a few dashes on top.

  5. Garnish with a citrus twist (lemon is the classic move).
